Southeastern Shelby County School Makes Reading an Event

Community Readers Day at Highland Oaks Elementary School at 5252 Annandale Drive featured a host of local leaders reading books that the children chose.

Firefighters, police officers and other caring community members, like FM 100 legendary DJ Ron Olson, appeared at the Southeastern Shelby County school on Friday, March 4, 2011.  I had the honor of reading two books to Ms. Seaton's 5th grade classroom which was filled with bright youngsters who proved to be an excellent audience.

Reading events took place nationwide earlier this week in honor of the birthday of Dr. Seuss on March 2nd. Now known as "Read Across America," this week has become the centerpiece for stressing the importance of reading to America's children.
