Miss. school janitor charged with sexual battery

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (AP) - A 37-year-old man who worked as a janitor at Southaven Elementary has been arrested and charged with sexual battery.

The Commercial Appeal reports Quincy Latimore was arrested by Southaven police Saturday for the alleged incident that occurred in February involving a teenage girl who was under 16 at the time. Police say the alleged victim is a teenage relative.

Latimore has been indicted on the sexual battery charge.

He remains in the DeSoto County jail, under no bond.

It was not immediately known whether Latimore has an attorney.

Baptist workers donate gifts to foster kids

Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto employees will donate toys and other Christmas gifts to 30 local foster children.

The employees will drop off wrapped gifts on Dec. 16, and Department of Human Services representatives will collect them and give them to families for Christmas.

The hospital will also host a small reception for employees.

The Mississippi RiverKings announced that Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Kaminski has been released from his position and has been replaced by Paul Gardner.

"We needed to move in a different direction," said RiverKings Director of Business Operations Ab Mattice, "and we think our fans deserve better than what has been produced the past two years."

Horn lake police searching for bank robber

Horn Lake police say a man walked into the Kroger store in the 7200 block of Interstate Blvd., Monday morning and robbed the SunTrust Bank inside the grocery store.

Officers say while witnesses never saw a weapon, the crook indicated he was armed. No one was injured during the crime. Investigators haven't determined how much money the man stole from the bank.

The suspect was wearing khaki pants an off-white or tan coat with blue on the sleeves and back.

Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood announced the ruling by an administrative law judge for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on Monday.

Congressman-elect Alan Nunnelee was picked be his fellow Republicans to serve on the House Appropriations Committee Thursday.

Rasco recovering from prostate surgery

Rasco recovering from prostate surgery

DeSoto County Sheriff Bill Rasco has returned home following prostate surgery on Monday, Dec. 6.

After being diagnosed with prostate cancer several weeks ago, Rasco opted for a robotic assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy, which is a minimally invasive procedure.

Based upon Rasco’s routine medical examinations, the cancer was diagnosed in a very early stage. The surgery was completely successful and no further treatment will be required. Rasco will return to his routine duties in the near future.
