JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Gov. Haley Barbour has issued a statewide burn ban as record dry weather continues to increase the risk of wildfires in Mississippi.

Body found may be missing FedEx employee

SOUTHAVEN, MS (WMC-TV) - It appears the answer to one of Southaven's biggest mysteries was only a few feet beneath the water of a retention pond along busy Airways Boulevard.

Lines in the grass mark the spot from where a car was pulled Tuesday afternoon.  Inside the mud-covered 1988 Mercury Cougar, human remains were also discovered.

"We've got to positively identified Southaven Police Department.

All indications point to the remains being those of 41-year-old William "Eddie" King of Southaven.  He was last seen around 4:00 in the morning on March 27, 2009.  King had finished his shift at FedEx in Memphis and was headed home.  Southaven Police say his credit and debit cards were never used.

In search of ice cream?

If you are looking for a not-so-typical place in Southaven to grab some ice cream or quick bite to eat, don't miss Brusters.

Located on the south side of Goodman Road between Swinnea and Greenbrook Parkway, Brusters offers not only a wide variety of ice cream types, but also Nathan's hot dogs.

You need to understand what kind of place this is before you arrive.  Much like Sonic, there's nowhere to sit inside at Brusters, which is unfortunate on cold days. But if you are feeling adventurous, you'll find tables in front of the restaurant and picnic table out back.
There's also a drive through, in case you are feeling too lazy to exit your car.

You'll notice a big difference in the amount and size of toppings you'll get in your ice cream at Brusters compared to other ice cream eateries, like Sonic or Baskin-Robbins.

Southaven residents to vote on 1% tax

SOUTHAVEN, MS (AP) - A 1% tourism tax is on the ballot Tuesday in Southaven.

The Commercial Appeal reports the money generated from the tax on restaurant bills is expected to pay for the proposed $35 million parks expansion and improvement plan.

The city received clearance last week from the U.S. Justice Department to hold the special election. Southaven Mayor Greg Davis says the request was a formality.

Davis says if residents approve the proposed tax, a park committee will be established to hear concerns and suggestions about parks projects.
