Voter registration deadline Oct. 3

Mississippi voters are running out of time to vote in the state’s Nov. 2 general election. The deadline to register is Oct. 3.

“I encourage everyone not to wait until the last minute to register to vote,” said Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann. “Voting is our most important right and the key to our democracy. Remember all of those who have fought and died for your right to cast a ballot in this upcoming General Election, and honor their memory by registering to vote today.”

Here’s some information from Hoseman’s office:

Because that date falls on a Sunday, the last day to register in person for the November General Election will be Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010. State law requires Circuit Clerk’s offices to be open from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. the Saturday before the deadline for voter registration.

SOUTHAVEN, MS (WMC-TV) - The City of Southaven officially began its rewards for recycling program this week.  The program is designed to help the environment while also rewarding residents.

Residents on Grant Avenue in Southaven will noticed a new addition standing next to their existing trash containers when the city launched the curbside recycling program.

"We found a company that will come in, not only allow us to put all our recycles into one can, pick it up twice a month for $6.25 and we'll get reward points," said Southaven Mayor Greg Davis.
