People line streets to mourn fallen Marine

As family and friends prepare to remember a fallen Marine, people lined the streets in DeSoto County Monday morning to welcome his body home.

Lance Corporal Joshue Ose, of Hernando, was killed in Afghanistan on Sept. 20, just two weeks after arriving in the country. The 19-year-old was killed by small arms fire while on foot patrol.

His body was flown home Monday morning from Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.

"He believed in the mission and why he was there," his father Ross Ose told Action News 5.  "It was important to Josh to be there."

A public funeral service will be held at Trinity Baptist Church in Southaven on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 10:30 a.m. Ose will be laid to rest in Hernando Memorial Park after the ceremony.

SOUTHAVEN, MS (WMC-TV) - The Mid-South Fair kicked off its second consecutive year in DeSoto County on Friday as gates opened for the first time.

Universal Fairs President Mark Lovell, whose company also oversaw last month's Delta Fair, said people who make the drive to DeSoto County will see a much improved event.

"It's bigger than it was last year, so if anybody came last year, forget about it," he said. "We've got it this year.  It's great, I promise you."

Lovell said fairgoers should expect to see more rides, more food and something to accommodate everyone's taste.

Voter registration deadline Oct. 3

Mississippi voters are running out of time to vote in the state’s Nov. 2 general election. The deadline to register is Oct. 3.

“I encourage everyone not to wait until the last minute to register to vote,” said Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann. “Voting is our most important right and the key to our democracy. Remember all of those who have fought and died for your right to cast a ballot in this upcoming General Election, and honor their memory by registering to vote today.”
