Service dogs not just for the blind, DeSoto family says

SOUTHAVEN, MS (WMC-TV) - Not all service dogs are for the blind. A DeSoto County family is trying to get that message out, because their teenage son uses a service dog for a medical condition.

Snap, a playful boxer/golden retriever mix, is Blac Hughes' new best friend.  Snap is a diabetic assist dog, who has been trained to assist Hughes, a type-one diabetic.

"He can tell when Blac's sugars go high or low," said Blac's mother, Dolores Church. "He can let Blac know, because the dog can sense it and smell change before Blac realizes it."

And if Hughes doesn't respond, Snap is trained to find help.

Church says most people think of service dogs as animals that help the blind, but they can perform a wide variety of duties.

Bill and his brothers came to the studio and brought some amazing stuff. The pizzas were great and fresh.

I love the relish that is on a Chicago style hot dogs and this is the right stuff. They bring in the meats from the real Chicago venders.

It is authentic Chicago food experience south of the Mansion Dixon Line. Now you don’t have to make the 531 mile trip; just a trip to Horn Lake.
