Vet discusses dangers of canine heat stroke

The summer heat has set in, which means pet owners need to take precautions to ensure their dogs do not suffer from heat stroke.

According to Dr. Carr Kelsey of the Kelsey Canine Medical Center in Collierville, dogs struggle with heat just as much as humans. They can suffer from heat stroke and heat exhaustion in just a short period of time.

Dogs already have a higher normal body temperature than humans of around 101.5°F. Unlike people, dogs have very limited sweat glands located in the pads of their paws. These glands can not sufficiently cool the dog off, which is why they also pant.

DeSoto County Schools draft anti-bullying policy

By Chip Washington - bio | email

HERNANDO, MS (WMC-TV) - Officials inside DeSoto County Schools are drafting a new policy designed to take on the issue of bullying.

"Last year we had 27,228 students," Superintendent Milton Kuykendall said Wednesday. "We'll have more than that this year. I do not want one child in DeSoto County Schools to feel like they've been bullied."

That, Kuykendall said, is the reason for a new policy he is proposing to school board members. It comes on the heels of a new anti-bullying state law that went into effect July 1.

The policy will prohibit bullying or harassing behavior against students and employees. According to Kuykendall, it sends a two-fold message.

Green Teams: Engaging Employees in Sustainability

The following came from greenbiz.com

Today, as green becomes more mainstream, a growing number of employees want to work for a company committed to sustainability and seek a work setting where the green practices they value at home are being implemented at the office.

Green teams are self organized, grassroots and cross functional groups of employees who voluntarily come together to educate, inspire and empower employees around sustainability. They identify and implement specific solutions to help their organization operate in a more environmentally sustainable fashion.
