HERNANDO, MS (WMC-TV) - Officials inside DeSoto County Schools are drafting a new policy designed to take on the issue of bullying.

"Last year we had 27,228 students," Superintendent Milton Kuykendall said Wednesday. "We'll have more than that this year. I do not want one child in DeSoto County Schools to feel like they've been bullied."

That, Kuykendall said, is the reason for a new policy he is proposing to school board members. It comes on the heels of a new anti-bullying state law that went into effect July 1.

The policy will prohibit bullying or harassing behavior against students and employees. According to Kuykendall, it sends a two-fold message.

Green teams are self organized, grassroots and cross functional groups of employees who voluntarily come together to educate, inspire and empower employees around sustainability. They identify and implement specific solutions to help their organization operate in a more environmentally sustainable fashion.

SOUTHAVEN, MS (WMC-TV) - Obstructive sleep apnea is a relatively common sleep disorder that affects some 50 million Americans.

December 26, 2004 was the day All Pro and NFL Hall of Famer Reggie White died suddenly at the age of 43 from obstructive sleep apnea. It happens when a person suddenly stops breathing while sleeping.  Now, six years later, his widow Sara has formed a partnership with Opus Medical to help bring attention to the disorder.

Derek Denman is president and CEO of Reggie White Medical Enterprises. He met Sara several years ago at a conference, befriended her, and thought she could make a big impact in terms of creating awareness.

Southaven's pink garbage cans a hit

SOUTHAVEN, MS (AP) - About 520 Southaven residents have paid their $5 to get pink trash cans in support of breast cancer research.

Mayor Greg Davis tells The Commercial Appeal that the 96-gallon cans are expected to be on the streets in the city by September.

Davis said the city spent $45 apiece to buy the pink cans, and the $5 that residents pay will be donated to the American Cancer Society for breast cancer research.

He said the city ordered an initial 500 cans, and with the overwhelming response, it will have to order more.
