Possible 10-cent gas tax increase for Miss. |

This year, Mississippians could pay even more at the pump if the proposed 10-cent per gallon tax increase is passed.

Mississippi Department of Transportation Commissioner, Dick Hall, wants to put the tax increase on Mississippi gas to help fund for better MS highways.

Halls says the Magnolia state could generate $220 million per year if Mississippi lawmakers would consider the tax hike.

If the state Legislature approves the tax increase, that will mean Mississippians will pay an extra three percent on top of what they're already paying at the pump.

The average price of a regular gallon of gas including the current 18 cent gas tax in MS is $3.20, according to the American Automobile Association. 

The Mississippi Legislature began its session Tuesday.
