Craigslist scammer sentenced to prison | Crime
(WMC-TV) - She admitted using Craigslist to scam people out of about $70,000 and now Laura Williams has been sentenced to 42 months in prison.
The 25-year-old Horn Lake woman was sentenced this week in federal court.
Williams and others used the web site to advertise tickets they never had. She had her victims wire money to her, but after she received the cash, the communication stopped, and the tickets never arrived.
“Ms. Williams fleeced unsuspecting customers using trickery and lies without regard for the situations and circumstances of her victims,” said Richard Harlow, special agent in charge of the Memphis Division of the United States Secret Service. “She stands as an unfortunate reminder that we must all be vigilant in our financial transactions."
In all, Williams said she and her associates scammed about 300 people.
