Title (Max 100 Characters)
A Horn Lake resident reported he was the victim of a scam commonly called a pigeon drop, according to the Horn Lake Police Department.
A Pigeon drop is a trick in which a victim or "pigeon" is persuaded to give up a sum of money in order to secure the rights to a larger sum of money.
In this case, the victim was approached by the scam suspects while he was at Kroger.
The suspects offered to pay him a large amount of money to hold a bag full of cash as they went to meet some girls at a hotel.
As an act of good faith, the scam suspects asked that the victim also put some money in the bag so they could be sure that he was honest.
After the suspects left, the victim looked in the bag and discovered that his money and the roll of cash the men had were gone.
The police department advises people to beware of anyone who approaches you offering deals that are too good to be true.
This type of scam can occur in other situations, and is also referred to as "good faith" money.
Usually, the scammers make off with the money and the victim is left with nothing.
In the process, the stranger who approaches the victim puts his money with the victims money. This could be in an envelope, briefcase, or sack.
The money is not put into the sack or envelope, but is switched for a bag full of newspaper or other worthless material.
Then the worthless material is given to the victim.
