"Waiting for Superman" star to speak in Memphis

Bill Strickland, a nationally known author, CEO and community visionary will speak in Memphis, Saturday March 5th.  Strickland was recently featured in the documentary, "Waiting for Superman".  Strickland went from intercity youth to powerful CEO after a teacher changed his life forever.  He now runs Manchester Bidwell Corporation in Pittsburgh which offers vocational training to displaced and underemployed workers.

SOUTHAVEN, MS - (WMC-TV) - Two Southaven business managers were recently tricked by a scam that led them into handing crooks a pile of cash.

It's a scam that involves a MoneyGram. The crooks are preying on business managers. In early January, scammers managed to get $600.00 from the Marshall's in Southaven.

HORN LAKE, MS (WMC-TV) - Horn Lake police arrested two mothers who they say were putting their children in harms way in order to make meth.

Police arrested Julia Ann Riley, 35, her sister, Whitney Renee Cockrell, 24, and her boyfriend Gary Eugene Long Jr., 25. They are charged with operating a "shake and bake" meth lab.

"These shake and bake labs are very dangerous," Lt.. Scott Evans with the Horn Lake Police Department said. "It's all mixed in a bottle you've got this chemical reaction going on in this bottle, building pressure."

Riley had her three children over at this house on Susie Lane when police arrived with a search warrant.

Mississippi moves to ban bath salts

Mississippi is moving closer to outlawing bath salts and other products containing toxic chemicals that some people are using to get high.

A ban passed the Senate Friday and moves to the House for more work.

The bill would ban mephedrone and M-D-P-V.

Officials say the chemicals are sold under such names as Ivory Wave, Bliss, White Lightning, Hurricane Charlie.

Authorities say the chemicals can cause hallucinations, paranoia and suicidal thoughts.

Police looking for cash advance robber

Horn Lake police are looking for the man who held up an Advance America Cash Advance Center in the 1750 Goodman Rd.

Police say the man walked onto the store around 9:40 a.m. wearing glasses, a mask, a blue parka and camoflouge pants.
