Southaven holiday event schedule unveiled

The holidays are almost here, and the city of Southaven has released their schedule of events to get you in the spirit of the season!

Below is the schedule of events from the Southaven Chamber of Commerce:

Nov. 18 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

  • Event: "Home For The Holidays" Art reception featuring local artists and live music provided by Eric Hughes Band. Hors d' Oeuvres and wine will be served. Silent auction benefiting Palmer Home for Children. TMG Home Concepts, 476 Church Rd., Southaven, Miss.  

Nov.  19 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

  • Event:  Holiday Open House/2nd Year Anniversary. Sassy and Chic, 5847 Getwell Rd., Suite A7, Southaven, Miss.                   

Nov.  21 2:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Santa coming to Southaven for breakfast

Mayor Greg Davis will host “Breakfast with Santa” again this holiday season.

This year’s event is sponsored by Wal-Mart, McDonald’s and All Children’s Clinic.

It will be held Saturday, Dec. 4 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Arena at Southaven located at 7360 Highway 51.

There is no admission cost, but reservations must be made by Wednesday, Dec. 1. To make your reservation, please call 662-393-6939 or 662-280-2489. Pictures with Santa will also be available at no charge.

Southaven announces Christmas parade date, route

Southaven’s Christmas parade will be held on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m.

It costs $20 to enter a float in the parade, $10 for a vehicle and it’s free for marching bands to participate. All of the entrances fees will help buy things for needy families.

If you’re interested in participating in the parade, call the city’s Parks Department at 662-890-PARK for more information.

The parade will start at First Commercial Drive, then travel north on Hwy. 51 to Main St., then east on Main St. to Northwest Dr. before ending at the city’s municipal buildings.

Horn Lake church trying to help abuse victims

New Prospect MB Church wants to help girls and women recover from abuse.

The church, located at 7990 Horn Lake South, is hosting a special event for victims of abuse on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 9:30 a.m.

“This event is designed to empower girls and women to move beyond the pitfalls and abuse they have encountered in life into a life that spells success,” a representative in a written statement.

Trick or Treat.....in the Grove?

The Ole Miss family wants to remind tailgaters for this Saturday's game against the Auburn Tigers to bring a bag or two of candy.  It should come in handy for the many children trick or treating from tent to tent.

GreenUp Memphis

GreenUp Memphis is a new festival celebrating things you can do to make Memphis both more eco-friendly and a more attractive place to live. Live Music, Festival Food, Interesting Exhibits, Prizes & More; it’s an event for folks who care about their home town and want to make a difference. Join Mayor Wharton for this inaugural event, on “The Green at South Front Street,” adjacent to the Memphis Farmers Market, Downtown behind Central Station. Saturday, October 30th from 11:00AM to 3:00PM.

Southaven mayor hosts Veteran's Day lunch

Southaven veterans are being honored by their city this Veteran's Day, Thursday, Nov. 11.

Mayor Greg Davis will host the annual appreciation luncheon, an event sponsored by Walmart, Landers Dodge, Landers Nissan, and Milton Davis of Edward Jones Investments.

The luncheon will be held at the arena at Southaven located at 7360 Highway 51 at 11 a.m.

All veterans are urged to make their reservations early. 

There will also be a memorabilia table set up for exhibiting pictures and awards, so veterans are invited to bring their own memorabilia.

The luncheon is free to veterans and admission for guests will be $10.

All branches of the service will be recognized.
