Firefighter, former alderman will run for Southaven mayor | News
(WMC-TV) - Several candidates are throwing their hats into the ring in the race for Southaven mayor to takeover Greg Davis' seat.
Candidates have until March 8 to qualify to run for mayor, but the city clerk said so far only two have filed.
One is Gerald Clifton.
He was unavailable when Action News 5 tried to reach Thursday, but we've learned he's a former Southaven alderman.
The other candidate is Josh Anderson, a former Southaven and Arlington firefighter.
He's running his campaign on servant leadership and new direction.
"In Southaven, we've been lacking a serving leader for sometime, my decision is based on the need for accountability in the city, we need a transparent government," said Anderson.
But, many in the Mid-South want to know if Greg Davis will run again.
Despite ongoing investigations, he has a lot of support in Southaven.
Davis said in email that he's still considering options, but this is what he told Action News 5 in an exclusive interview last year:
"I'm going to be honest with you, we're raising funds to run again," said Davis back in November.
Current Alderman Ronnie Hale said he is considering a run at office but hasn't made a decision yet.
Action News 5 will keep you up to date as the election gets closer.
