Horn Lake man advances to World Series of Poker championship

Ryan Stevenson

TUNICA, MS- (WMC-TV) - A Horn Lake man is thousands of dollars richer after winning the local qualifier to the World Series of Poker championship.

Harrah's casino in Tunica was packed full of poker players trying to win a place at the big table. Just after midnight, a local engineer walked away with more than $200,000 and a new ring.

It took ten hours for Horn Lake native Ryan Stevenson to seal the win.

Stevenson says the win is a dream come true for someone who has spent so much time playing poker.

Organizers say it is exciting to have a local winner.

"Knowing that you've got a shot to win and in this case Ryan not only had a shot to win but is sitting there now with a big prize," Harrah's General Manager Darold Londo.

In addition to the money and ring, Stevenson will compete in the World Series of Poker championship at the end of May in New Orleans.

Southaven developer pleads guilty to bank fraud

Chuck Roberts

SOUTHAVEN, MS- (WMC-TV) - A Southaven developer who has been linked to Mayor Greg Davis pleaded guilty to bank fraud in court Thursday.

Chuck Roberts walked out of federal court without commenting on the plea agreement.

In the document detailing the plea agreement, it makes no mention of Mayor Greg Davis, however, the two have been linked in questionable business transactions in the past.

Court documents reveal that in 2008, Roberts made false statements and reports to Citizens National Bank in connection with a $5 million loan for RH Holdings, an entity with former partner Jamie Harris.

Harris pleaded not guilty to a similar charge Wednesday.

According to records, the loan was for the construction and development of the Cherry Hill subdivision in Southaven. Roberts would allegedly submit fake invoices to draw money from the loan.

Former firefighter announces Southaven mayoral candidacy

SOUTHAVEN, MS- (WMC-TV) - The race to replace Southaven Mayor Greg Davis is heating up as a former firefighter officially announced his candidacy Sunday.

The announcement comes days after embattled Mayor Greg Davis revealed he would not be seeking another term.

Josh Anderson was joined by his family and a number of supporters this afternoon as he announced his candidacy outside the Southaven municipal building.

The small businessman and former firefighter said fiscal responsibility is his primary concern.

Anderson decided to pursue the mayor's post before Greg Davis broke the news this week that he would not be running following a year of difficulties.

Including his recent indictment on fraud charges.

"I'm here to provide a fresh face, new blood — just a difference, a different type of politician — someone who is going to serve the people and not going to serve themselves," said Southaven Mayoral Candidate Josh Anderson.

ONLY ON 5: Mayor Greg Davis opens up about personal life

SOUTHAVEN, MS- (WMC-TV) - After rocking the Southaven political scene Wednesday night with his announcement that he will not seek re-election, Mayor Greg Davis is opening up about a very private part of his life.

"There comes a time, I guess for 46 years, I have done what other people wanted me to do. The new chapter I can say will be for myself, my partner and my family and we will do what we want to do regardless of the public's perception," he said.

Southaven Mayor Greg Davis has not decided what he will do after leaving the office of the mayor, a job he has held for 16 years. He has held office for just about all of his adult life. He knows he wants to stay close to his three daughters, so he will not move away.

"They get along great with everybody, including Jansen. We don't want that separation to occur," Davis said referring to his partner, Jansen Fair.
