Tennessee Energy Star Appliance Rebates Still Available

Winter is upon us and more Tennesseans are flipping the switch on their heaters and discovering it is time to upgrade their systems.  The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development’s Energy Division reminds Tennesseans that there is still more than $1 million remaining for energy efficient appliance rebates for consumers who have upgraded to a qualifying Energy Star® appliance since April 22, 2010.

Since October 30, ECD’s Energy Division reports that 17,491 rebates, totaling $4,131,760, have been paid to Tennesseans through the program. Tennessee consumers can still purchase and install eligible Energy Star Appliances to replace less efficient models and receive a rebate debit card on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are depleted.  Applications must be postmarked by January 14, 2012.  Tennesseans can track funds still remaining at http://teearp.efi.org.

St. Agnes-St. Dominic Coaching Legend Faces Toughest Fight Yet

If you've entered the gymnasium on the East Memphis campus of St. Agnes Academy and St. Dominic School, you have walked into the world where James W. Mathis has devoted nearly all of his working life.

Mathis, 77, has served as a coach on the staff of the private Catholic schools located on Walnut Grove Road at Mendenhall since 1962.

"Some of his original players came to drink coffee with him at Panera Bread at Laurelwood this week and I felt like I was in the presence of a rock star," said Jay Mathis, the coach's son who followed in his father's footsteps.

"Six week ago, Coach Mathis was bench pressing 260 pounds, " said Jim Lassandrello, Athletic Director of St. Agnes-St. Dominic, "but now he's in a wheelchair. It's shaken all of us."

Southaven mayor Greg Davis submits $53K in receipts

SOUTHAVEN, MS-

(WMC-TV) - Southaven Mayor Greg Davis has turned over receipts for $53,000 to state auditors. In an interview Tuesday, Davis said he hopes to put a dent in the $170,000 he has been told to pay by Friday.

State Auditor Stacey Pickering said earlier this month the demand includes $153,589 for expenses, $16,822 for interest and $13,571 for investigative costs.

"We're waiting for the state auditor to see if they satisfy what he was looking for," Davis said.

The audit revealed several of Davis' receipts were jotted down on notebook paper, including restaurant tabs, trips out of town, family counseling and payments to retailers like Sports Authority and CVS Pharmacy.
