Eco Expo!

The hugely successful Eco Expo is back with even more exhibitors showing us how to treat our earth more gently with green products, materials, services, and organizations.

Exhibitors will be offering ideas and information, and some will be selling their products and services.

The Expo is Sunday February 5th, 2012 from 11am until 3pm at Temple Israel--1376 East Massey Road...Memphis, TN.

For kids and adults of all ages, there’s something for everyone!

Learn, eat, explore, or just visit with some really nice people.

Remember the proverb, “Treat the earth well: it was not given to you by your parents; it was loaned to you by your children.”

We are working together with our fellow community leaders and congregations of all faiths to help save the planet.

St. Agnes-St. Dominic Coaching Legend Faces Toughest Fight Yet

St. Agnes-St. Dominic Coaching Legend Faces Toughest Fight Yet

If you've entered the gymnasium on the East Memphis campus of St. Agnes Academy and St. Dominic School, you have walked into the world where James W. Mathis has devoted nearly all of his working life.

Mathis, 77, has served as a coach on the staff of the private Catholic schools located on Walnut Grove Road at Mendenhall since 1962.

"Some of his original players came to drink coffee with him at Panera Bread at Laurelwood this week and I felt like I was in the presence of a rock star," said Jay Mathis, the coach's son who followed in his father's footsteps.

"Six week ago, Coach Mathis was bench pressing 260 pounds, " said Jim Lassandrello, Athletic Director of St. Agnes-St. Dominic, "but now he's in a wheelchair. It's shaken all of us."

LeBron leaves lady hanging after dunk

Rudy Gay hosted a charity basketball game last night at the DeSoto Civic Center and since the NBA lockout is stretching on and on, he didn’t have a hard time getting some big names to take the court.

LeBron James and Kevin Durant were just a few of the stars that showed up in DeSoto County. But this morning, a video of LeBron is making at least as much news as the 43 points he scored during Tuesday night’s exhibition.

The off the backboard dunk is great, but keep watching and notice that LeBron might not be a fan of high-fiving strangers.

Runners celebrate marathon of support for St. Jude

Runners celebrate marathon of support for St. Jude

Running a marathon takes everything you've got. It's emotional. It's common to see first time finishers gush with tears, overcome by sheer exhaustion and the magnitude of their accomplishment. I wept openly at the completion of the inaugural St. Jude Memphis Marathon in 2002 (my first), partly because my beloved Dad was a great runner and had passed away that year. Pop would have been proud! A deep current of emotion runs through the St. Jude course, which celebrates its tenth anniversary on December 3rd, 2011. The precious angels who benefit directly from the marathon line key segments of the course. Runners first encounter St. Jude patients cheering as they roll directly through the hospital's billion dollar campus. More St. Jude smiles appear after the 9 mile mark as little ones encourage runners outside Target House, a place St. Jude families stay free of charge courtesy of Target Stores.
